The next day we show up to the record store early and find our place in line. The whole street is a complete fiasco with people lined up around the block and hot dog vendors everywhere, preying on the hunger of those trying desperately to hold their place. My wife is done up to the nines, wearing a short black skirt over a tight, pink one-piece.

A guy with a small mechanical device walks past us down the line, clicking once as he goes for every person he sees.

“Do you think that means we got in?” Kali asks me.

“I don’t know.” I answer.

Suddenly, there is a booming voice from about twenty feet down the sidewalk from us. “Already everybody!” The man with the counter is shouting. “If you’re after this person in line, you’re not seeing the show today. We’re going to be at capacity here. I’m sorry about that.”

His announcement is met with a sea of disappointed groans as the less fortunate fans disperse back to wherever they came from. Kali claps her hands together with girlish excitement and suddenly the remainder of us who haven’t been turned away start moving foreword towards the entrance.

“Once we get inside I’m going to push my way to the front.” She tells me. “You coming?”

I shake my head. “No thanks baby, but you go ahead.”

Kali nods as we cross through the threshold of the record store and immediately disappears through the crowd, cutting across the ocean of people like a shark as she cruises directly to the edge of the small, makeshift stage. She gets a few angry glances from the fans that she pushes by, but it’s hard to stay that upset with someone as cute as my beautiful blonde wife.

I casually find a place to stand at the back of the room and take in the proceedings. The crowd is what I would have expected, young and hip, with a slight but not entirely disproportionate lean towards the female gender.

It’s not long before the band hits the stage, causing the entire packed room to burst into a wild frenzy of adoration. They kick into their first song, an upbeat jam that I’ve heard a million times before in Kali’s car. It’s okay.

My disaffected reaction couldn’t be any farther from Kali’s. I spot her in the front, singing along with her hands in the air as she sways her gorgeous body to the music. It’s hard not to notice her, even for the band who make no mystery about looking my wife up and down throughout the set.

Immediately, I can feel that strange jealous and horny feeling return to my bloodstream, pumping through my heart and seeping deep into my brain. It’s even stronger than before, probably because I’ve started to accept it, letting it overwhelm me pleasantly instead of struggling to push it away.
